Our Story
We started Friesen Family Construction to help facilitate us staying and working on Denman Island. As well as being part of the community, we want to grow that community and help provide high quality jobs for people on the Island.
We also saw a need to advance the construction industry into the 21st Century and pride ourselves on building better homes to meet higher standards.
Our Approach
Education
We believe that education and learning is very important at every stage of life and are interested in helping all of our employees further their knowledge in the field; be it through apprenticeships, challenging the red seal exam, or courses and seminars on all aspects of the construction business.
Building for the Future
Our slogan, "Building for the future" defines the mission of our company. We strive to build homes that not only meet today's building codes but exceed them. It also means preparing your new home for future technology including being solar ready and having the electrical infrastructure in place to allow for future electric vehicle charging.
Meet the Team
Our team looks a little different these days. Alan is heading up the company, and Paige is helping out on the backend in between chasing our two wonderful children (3.5 and 7 months). It really is a family affair.
Alan Friesen
Owner / Project Manager
Alan is the technical expertise behind our operation. At just 8 years old, he helped build his family home Denman Island. After high school, he did a 6 month joinery course at BCIT, spent a couple years self-employed doing small building jobs on Denman, then spent the next 8 years working for Blue Sky Design on Hornby Island, building custom homes. During that experience, he was able to challenge for his Red Seal in carpentry. In early 2016, Alan decided to become self-employed, so that he could further his project management skills. He spent a year working on a project for one of the local Denman designers, Etienne Design, before deciding to team up with Paige and start their own construction company in early 2017.
Paige Friesen
Owner / Office Grunt
Paige used to run the office here, and is now doing some of the backend work and raising their two young children. Paige moved back to Denman after finishing her undergrad, doing a variety of different jobs. In fall of 2015, she started working with Etienne Design. She spent the next year and a half working closely with Etienne in the office, and learning the way the back end of the construction industry works. That experience allowed her to start a construction company with her husband, Alan, when the time arose.
Gabriel and Samuel Friesen
Spawn
Gabriel (3.5) "knows construction" and likes to fix stuff with his own tools. Sammy (7 months) will follow his brother anywhere. If you're lucky you might get to see one of these hard workers inspecting the site to make sure the job is getting done right.
